Woman found dead, male friend critical in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The body of a 21-year-old woman was found with her throat slit at her residence in RC Puram on Monday. Next to her, her male friend was found unconscious with a similar slit wound on his neck. He was rushed to hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Officials said that at the time of the incident, only Ramya and Praveen were present in the house as her family members were away for work.

“Ramya’s mother, who works in a local company, came home for lunch to see the door locked from inside. As Ramya did not open the door after repeated knocks, she called her husband who rushed home and broke open the door, to find Ramya and Praveen in a pool of blood,” police said.

Investigators said that there are trying to ascertain the sequence of events that led to Ramya’s death and Praveen’s injury.

“As Praveen is still undergoing treatment, we are unable to gather further details about the incident. We will have more information once we take his statement,” an official said.

Police suspect the duo were in a relationship, which was opposed by Ramya’s family. “Her family was against the duo’s marriage. Praveen is an engineering and Ramya is a first year degree student. A case of suspicious death has been registered,” police said.
