Hyderabad: A 35-year-old woman died in a fire triggered by a gas leak at a two-storey building in Rahmath Nagar, Yusufguda, on Sunday afternoon.
According to fire officials, the incident occurred around noon when deceased Sonu's mother was cooking. They suspect that the regulator of an LPG cylinder malfunctioned, causing the gas to leak and leading to a sudden flare-up of flames, which caught onto Sonu's clothes.
"The fire spread quickly, burning the curtains and other household articles. The blaze lasted for nearly 20 minutes before it was brought under control. The fire originated on the ground floor of the G+1 building," said P Sai Reddy, station fire officer (SFO).
Sonu's parents Gopal Singh and Lalitha Bhai suffered minor injuries, and were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment. A fire tender from the Jubilee fire station was rushed to the spot. A fire accident case has been registered at the Madhuranagar police station, and investigation is underway.
