With no JEE, NEET coaching, going gets tough for govt college students

HYDERABAD: Depriving thousands of government junior college students a chance to appear in competitive exams, the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has failed to offer special coaching classes for students appearing for

JEE

, EAMCET and NEET examinations.


The board, which had earlier failed to execute its plan of establishing a college of excellence and imparting yearlong coaching to students, has also failed to conduct the 40-day crash courses, which were being organised during the summer season in the last two years.

“Looks like officials are least bothered to conduct coaching classes for students. This is despite the fact that these classes are yielding positive results. Last year too, many students managed to get seats in engineering, agriculture and pharmacy colleges after attending these classes,” said P Madhu Sudhan Reddy, president, Telangana Government Junior Lecturers Association.

He said that last year, lecturers had volunteered to work without remuneration for the benefit of students. “This year too, we are ready to conduct classes. But it is too late now as it is too late to contact students staying in remote areas,” he added.

The board officials, meanwhile, claimed that they are planning to conduct classes and added that a notification will be released in a couple of days. “We have shortlisted a few students and summer classes will be conducted in all 10 districts for the selected students. Lecturers are not aware of the plan yet,” said a highly placed source from the BIE.

The official further claimed that two camps—one each for boys and girls, will be set up in district headquarters and classes will be conducted in virtual mode.

“A total of 20 centers will be functional and each center will accommodate 50 students. Classes will be streamed from Hyderabad to all the centers,” said the official.
