Will rebuild houses at same location in Velugumatla: KTR
Hyderabad: Lashing out at the govt for demolishing huts in Velugumatla near Khammam town, which came up on Bhoodan land, BRS working president KT Rama Rao has asked the Congress govt whether the Indiramma Rajyam promised meant demolishing the houses of the poor. Pledging BRS support for the victims, he said the party would go to the Supreme Court, if necessary, and the party would rebuild the houses and conduct house-warming ceremonies in the same area after the party returns to power. The BRS working president, along with party leaders, visited the Velugumatla victims on Thursday and expressed anger over the demolitions. He said that though some of them had documents and tax receipts for their houses, the officials forcibly evicted them. KTR said the party would raise the issue in the upcoming assembly sessions.
During KTR's visit to the victims of govt-led demolitions in Indiramma Colony, Khammam district, heartbreaking scenes were witnessed. The victims, holding back tears, showed KTR their land documents, property tax receipts, house tax papers, and demand drafts for electricity connections. "These are all govt-issued documents, so how can they demolish our homes?" they lamented. They complained that despite living without issues under the previous KCR govt, the current administration forcibly evicted them at midnight. He accused the govt of tyranny by demolishing 150 houses in Khammam and the homes of the disabled in Mahabubnagar. He demanded justice for the victims, stating that merely transferring the RDO was insufficient.KTR assured support to the families affected by the demolitions. "Don't be disheartened or cry... I take responsibility to rebuild houses at the same site and conduct housewarming ceremonies for all of you," he promised. As part of this struggle, he said they would meet with the district collector and chief secretary to stand with the victims.
