‘Will protect honest GRE takers’
Hyderabad: While refusing to comment on GRE test malpractice case under investigation by Hyderabad police, the complainant agency, Educational Testing Service (ETS), said that it remains committed to protecting honest candidates. ETS administers the GRE and TOEFL exams. Based on its complaint, cyber crime registered a case over a week ago against a ‘ring of fraudsters’ including an absconding accused, Guna Sekhar, for resorting to malpractices in collusion with candidates appearing for online GRE tests at home. ETS had busted the racket using a private investigator as decoy candidate in Hyderabad. In response to TOI queries about the GRE fraud, an ETS spokesperson said: “We deem it appropriate to not comment further at this stage in light of the ongoing investigation. We remain committed to protecting honest takers of the GRE and TOEFL tests across India and around the world. As such, we strongly denounce cheating – the risk is not worth the reward.”Wallace Dalrymple, chief security officer of ETS, recently said they incorporated AI tools such as facial recognition and biometric technologies to prevent fraud. A candidate can’t open any software not permitted or a new browser window during the test. AI tools will also flag if impersonation attempt or use of cell phone during test. The entire test is also monitored by a proctor online.
