HYDERABAD: Officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) have sought an exemption from attending election duties in the ensuing
Telangana Assembly polls slated to be from December 7.
According to a source in HMWS&SB, the CEO, Telangana, has asked the HMWS&SB to depute their staff for polling procedure and counting of votes in the elections.
“A total of 1,000 ministerial staff are working in the water board. As water supply is an essential commodity, the staff will be required to operate water supply network to ensure uninterrupted water supply, to the lakhs of consumers in city and also GHMC periphery,” said the source.
“Moreover, water board staff must be ready to rush in if incidents like overflowing of sewerage system occurs. Keeping this in view, we have already sent a requisition to the CEO, seeking an exemption, through the district election officer, Hyderabad and waiting for the reply,” the source added.
