HYDERABAD: Two men from Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam district peddling in

were arrested here on Tuesday and

of ganja was recovered from them. The duo — V Srinivas, 26, and his associate B Ashok Teja, 26 — procure the contraband from the Agency area at Rs 1,500 a kilo and sell it to city-based buyers at Rs 4,000 a kilo. Excise sleuths, who seized the ganja from the dickey and rear seat of a car, said the contraband is sold to customers at Rs 10,000 a kilo.

Excise sleuths arrested Srinivas near TV tower in Malakpet and seized 2kg of ganja and on interrogation Srinivas spilled the beans about Ashok, who came from Narsipatnam in AP to sell ganja in Hyderabad.

The excise team rushed to Abdullapurmet and found a car parked close to the highway on the road leading to Bata Singaram. Ashok, who was at the wheel, was arrested and 100kg of ganja was seized from the car. The duo, who hail from Makavarampalem village in Visakhapatnam district, confessed that they have been procuring ganja from agents in Paderu, Chintapally and Narsipatnam areas by paying Rs 1,500 per kilo. They also revealed how peddlers in Hyderabad sell the ganja at Rs 10,000 a kilo. The accused and the seized property have been handed over to Malakpet excise police for probe.

In another case, Chandanagar police arrested Alauddin, 32, an auto driver from

Serilingampally

and Saleem Iqbal Quazi, 57, an auto driver from Maharashtra, when they were trying to sell ganja to people at Gandhi statue near Chandanagar bus stop. Police seized three kilos of ganja and Rs 5,000 from the accused.
