SOMPETA (SRIKAKULAM): Locals on Saturday gheroed rural development minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar when he visited Palasapuram village to hand over an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to families of the victims of Sompeta firing on Wednesday in which two persons were killed and scores injured.
Women of the village in a vociferous voice questioned the minister about the attitude of the police and demanded justice.
He assured the villagers that he would take the matter to chief minister K Rosaiah. He then handed over the cheques to the victims' families.
Meanwhile, the situation in Sompeta returned to normal with all the shops and establishments opening on Saturday. The transport network including
APSRTC also has resumed its services.
