HYDERABAD: In a major jolt to Congress, its star campaigner
Vijayashanti will be joining back
BJP after over a decade, on or before Dasara, which is on October 8.
Her entry will be a boost to BJP as she has mass following in
Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
BJP top brass in Delhi want her to be the star campaigner in 15 to 20 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra. Campaigning is in full swing for assembly elections in Maharashtra, and Vijayashanti is a huge hit there, mainly in assembly constituencies bordering Telangana.
She may also be asked to
campaign for the Huzurnagar by-poll. BJP is also trying to ensure other top Congress leaders join the saffron party. The names of Congress former deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, former Union minister Sarvey Satyanarayana, and MLA Komati Rajagopal Reddy are doing the rounds as the ones the BJP is in touch with. While the first two have denied it, Rajagopal Reddy has said he will join BJP at an appropriate time.
While local BJP leaders want Vijayashanti’s entry to be a big event in Telangana, it is yet to be decided whether she would join Delhi or the event would be held in Telangana. BJP national general secretary Muralidhar Rao and senior RSS leaders, completed the negotiations with her in the past 15 days. A source close to Vijayashanti confirmed she is joining BJP.
