UPSC shortlists 3 IPS officers for T DGP post

Hyderabad: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has reportedly shortlisted three senior IPS officers for the post of DGP in Telangana. The state govt is now expected to choose one of the three to head the state's police force.The selection committee met in Delhi on March 11 to complete the shortlisting process in line with the directives of the Supreme Court. The high-level meeting was attended by the UPSC chairperson, the Union home secretary, the Telangana chief secretary, and a nominee from the ministry of home affairs.Following a review of the service records of six DG-rank officers submitted by the state govt, the committee shortened the list to three candidates. The shortlisting was based on seniority as well as the length of remaining service tenure. Those shortlisted are CV Anand (1991 batch), currently serving as special chief secretary (Home); Vinayak Prabhakar Apte (1994 batch), special director in the Intelligence Bureau; and Soumya Mishra (1994 batch), director general of prisons, Telangana.Among the three, Anand is widely seen as the front-runner, having previously served as commissioner of police for both Hyderabad and Cyberabad.
