HYDERABAD: Nikita Nagasai and Naresh, two students who sustained severe head injuries in Thursday’s accident at New Century School at

, are battling for life at a private hospital at Jubilee Hills. Also, the two children suffered injuries on their hands and legs.

Apart from these two, three other students — Devi Sree, ,Sahasha and Sandeep Reddy, all between 9 and 10 years of age— also sustained injuries, but they were said to be out of danger and recuperating at Anupama Hospitals. “Nikita suffered a head injury. She became unconscious. As her condition was deteriorating, she was shifted to

Apollo

Hospital. Sandeep suffered a gash as a boulder fell on his knee. He will require surgery,” Dr Ramesh Mani, critical case specialist at

Anupama Hospital

, JNTU Road, said. “Nikita is on ventilator support. Naresh’s lungs got punctured, suffered abdominal and other internal injuries. His condition is critical too,” sources in Apollo Hospital said. Sandeep suffered a gash as a boulder fell on his knee. He would require surgery, Dr Ramesh Mani said.

According to parents, they received calls between 2.45pm and 3pm. “I rushed to Anupama Hospital,

Vivekananda Nagar

, after I received a call saying Sandeep met with an accident. His leg was bleeding badly. I got scared looking at his condition,” Laxmi Reddy, mother of Sandeep, told TOI.

“The school told me Devi fell from stairs. When I reached the hospital, I learnt two students had died and others were severely injured. All the parents and injured children were at the hospital. Seeing them, I was really scared thinking about my daughter’s condition. Devi’s right leg toe needed stitches as the cut was deep, while the little finger suffered fracture,” Sailaja Krishna, mother of Devi Sree said.

“It is a second life for my daughter. When I reached the hospital, one of my friends said two students had died. I was scared and hoped it wasn’t Devi. She escaped the accident, and she is the only one among the seven students who is able to talk after the tragedy,” she said. Sailaja, who is a private employee got a call at around 2.50pm from the school staff when she was at office, stating her daughter met with an accident. However, the school did not give her any details.

Meanwhile, the bodies of Manikeertana and Chandana were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for the post-mortem examination.
