SECUNDERABAD: Sewerage woes in

Secunderabad

are likely to end by 2021. A mega plan to implement the sewerage master plan (SMP) is under progress and officials of HWSS&SB are busy finalising a detailed project report (DPR).

After a detailed study by the Water Board and Shaw & Co, two additional STPs at Amberpet and Patigadda have been recommended. Keeping the growing

population projection

(by 2036), the two additional STPs and a new sewerage covering 31 square km are being designed, officials aver.

Currently, the Water Board is using an STP at Amberpet with a capacity of 339 million litres per day (MLD) and another STP at Patigadda with a capacity of 30 MLD. The capacity of these two STPs will be increased soon, officials say.

"In the new SMP, Amberpet STP capacity will be enhanced to up to 154 MLD and simultaneously, Patigadda STP up to 31 MLD," chief

general

manager, STP circle, HMWS&SB, M L Prasanna Kumar told TOI.

The existing STPs handle a sewer load of 21.50 lakh population and the new SMP has been designed keeping the population projection up to 33 lakhs by 2036, he said.

"We plan to keep Secunderabad free from sewerage woes by implementing the new SMP," added a senior official.
