HYDERABAD: Twelve persons, including a two-year-old boy, were killed in various road accidents in the state on Sunday. Six persons of a marriage party were killed and 10 others injured when a Tata Ace auto they were travelling in was hit by a speeding lorry near Sattenapalle town in the late hours of Saturday. More than 24 people were travelling in the auto at the time of the mishap.

The injured were rushed to the government hospital at Sattenapalle where the condition of six of them was critical. The auto was mangled under the impact of the crash, while the bodies of the victims got thrown away from the national highway. The victims were heading to Uppalapadu village of Rajapalem mandal to attend a marriage scheduled in the early hours of Sunday.
In another accident, five fisherfolk were killed and five others seriously injured when an auto in which they were travelling in was hit by a speeding truck on the national highway at Chollangi in Tallarevu mandal in Srikakulam district in the early hours.
B Veerababu, S Nagamani, K Seshamma, G Mathamma and B Dhanalakshmi died on the spot, while five others D Mahalakshmi who was admitted in the Kakinada government hospital in Kakinada along with four others were in a critical condition. The deceased were on their way from Chollangi to Kotturu at the time.
In the third accident, two-year-old Sanosh who was playing on the road was knocked down by an auto at Makli village in Veeraballi mandal in Kadapa district. The parents were inconsolable. The police took the auto driver into custody.
In another accident, 40 passengers of a private bus had a miraculous escape when the speeding bus capsized near Hindupur in Anantapur district. The bus, on its way to Venkatapur village, lost control and overturned. Five seriously injured passengers were rushed to Bangalore.
