HYDERABAD: Former Jammu and Kashmir governor Gen K V Krishna Rao on Friday asked Rajya Sabha MP T Subbarami Reddy to push for the setting up of an independent national security institute.
The institute would study aspects of national security and suggest ways to counter militancy in the country.

Krishna Rao said though there are government institutes for defence studies and analysis, their studies are "influenced" due to various reasons and hence are not able to give independent findings.
Veteran film personality Akkineni Nageshwar Rao said Subbarami Reddy was a person who was able to gain popularity similar to a great actor due to his good work.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion Subbarami Reddy said: "I dedicate my Shashtipurti celebrations for building India into a strong nation." He said it is important to go with society though everyone has their own principles. He said, "I wanted to send a message across the country that I am celebrating my Shashtipurti celebrations not just for myself but for everyone."
General K V Krishna Rao, Dr Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Padmabhushan Dr C Narayana Reddy, film actress Jamuna Ramana Rao and Editor in Chief, Andhra Prabha daily Dr A B K Prasad were presented with T Subbarami Reddy Visishta Puraskar awards by former Karnataka governor V S Rama Devi and AICC secretary Anil Shastry.
TSR Visista Satkars were also awarded to numerous others from various fields.
