SIDDIPET: With tears rolling down his cheeks, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday bid farewell to the people of Siddipet who sent him to the Assembly six times.

Chandrashekhar Rao said he had to retain the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat for the sake of his dream of achieving statehood for Telangana.
"I am on a sacred mission. My presence at the Centre is necessary for accomplishing it," he explained. "So I have to give up Siddipet."

Rao wept as he thanked the people of Siddipet, leaving the gathering of over 3,000 dumbstruck before ''Jai Telangana'' slogans broke the spell.

The TRS chief fumed at critics who have carped at his claim of support for the ideal in the Union government''s Common Minimum Programme (CMP). "Some people are trying to create confusion over the words ''appropriate time and with consensus and discussions'' (in the CMP). Let me make it clear, such people are in a rude shock. We are going to achieve our mission soon," Chandrashekhar Rao told The Times of India after the Siddipet function.

The process of carving out a separate state has already begun, he claimed. All constituents of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) — except the CPM — support separate statehood for the region.

"Even if the CPM opposes it, we are confident that the bill will be passed in Parliament." Chandrashekhar Rao said he was not alone in the fight.
