Hyderabad: The decomposed body of a 16-year-old girl who went missing from her home in Chevella on Sept 4 was found in Gandipet lake late on Wednesday. The family identified her based on a taweez (sacred thread) found on her body, Narsingi police said.
The girl was mentally ill and had stepped out of home during heavy rain on Sept 4 and did not return, police said.
After locals informed cops about a body of a woman in the lake, they circulated the photo, clothes and taweez across various police station. As a missing person report was already registered at the neighbouring Chevella police station, the cops there informed the girl's parents. The parents, along with cops, came to the spot and identified her.
"How and where she fell in the water is being probed," Narsingi SI A Muraleedhar said.
Her body was handed over to the family after a postmortem.
