Techie, addicted to betting, dies by suicide over mounting debts

Hyderabad: Unable to overcome mounting debts, a software professional died by suicide at Kokapet in Narsingi on Thursday. Ganiwada Naga Prabhakar, 27, who was addicted to online betting, was working for a customer service firm in the last couple of years, police said.Though his father Bhadra Rao managed to clear some of his debts, Prabhakar was worried about paying the remaining debts and could have killed himself, said police. His sister Durga Bhavani told cops that Prabhakar was upset over the rising debts. Police said he invested large amounts in online betting by borrowing from multiple sources, including known persons. Hailing from West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, Prabhakar was staying in a PG accommodation in Gachibowli.Police said the firm where he worked and the PG facility where he took the extreme step are located in the same locality in Kokapet.On a complaint from his sister, a case was registered. No suicide note was found, said police.
