Top brass owe Rs 50 lakh water dues
HYDERABAD: Several state top brass, including several senior IAS and IPS officers, owe Rs 50 lakh dues to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB).
Vexed with not getting any response to its notices, the water board has decided to snap water connection to the officials.
Several senior IAS and IPS officers staying at government quarters at Banjara Hills, Punjagutta and Erramanzil Colony in the city have been defaulting on the payments for the past few years.
1x1 polls

Principal secretary (General Administration Department) Prabhakar D Thomas has asked HMWS&SB managing director K S Jawahar Reddy to furnish a list of the 'defaulting' officers who owe the water board over Rs 10,000 and above.
Accordingly, the water board sent the list of names on Saturday. The list has startling revelations that the cumulative arrears unpaid by the babus is over Rs 50 lakh.
"We will serve notices on the shortlisted officials probably in the next week. We have left it to GAD authorities to collect the dues from them," the HMWS&SB managing director told STOI.
"It's our mistake. We have not issued 'no due certificates' to officials after they vacated government quarters.
As a result, the water dues have been accumulating," GAD estate officer (rent collection and eviction) J Subbarayudu said.
Not far behind the top brass are lower level employees staying at the government quarters at Malakpet, Patigadda and Kaladera who owe Rs 40 lakh water charge dues to the water board, the sources added.
