HYDERABAD: Burglars struck at a goldsmith's house in Aurora Colony of Banjara Hills on Tuesday and stole 40 tolas of gold ornaments and silver articles. The incident happened when inmates of the house had gone to their native place in Anantapur.
According to the Banjara Hills police, burglars struck at the house of K Vasudev Reddy and Leelavati, who own a jewellery shop in Anantapur.
The thieves entered the house breaking the main door lock and decamped with gold and silver jewellery, Banjara Hills inspector (Detective) D Ashok said.
Police said Leelavati and her family members had gone to their native place in Anantapur on October 6. They had called up their domestic help on Monday night and directed her to clean up the place as they would arrive in the city on Tuesday.
The domestic help went to the Reddy residence and saw the door lock broken and immediately informed the family members. Leelavati lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police station stating that 40 tolas of gold and silver jewellery were missing from her house.
Police suspect that the theft might have taken place late on October 10. They have registered a theft case and are investigating.
