Subba Reddy's daughter Shobha and son-in-law Bhuma Nagi Reddy have already left the TDP and joined the PRP. The family has been associated with the TDP since 1991 when Subba Reddy contested the Kurnool Lok Sabha elections against Congress stalwart Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy.Subba Reddy wanted his son Mohan Reddy to contest from his Pathikonda seat in this election.
With TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu pouring cold water on Subba Reddy's plans, the father-son duo shifted loyalties to the Congress. Sources said chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has promised to nominate Mohan Reddy from Pathikonda seat.
However, Kurnool MP Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy is also keen to field his follower Cherukulapadu Narayan Reddy in Pathikonda as Congress candidate. The animosity between Kotla and SV families runs deeper. Narayan Reddy and his followers recently met the CM and urged him not to take Subba Reddy into the party fold.Sources said the TDP has more or less decided to nominate former minister K E Prabhakar to Pathikonda seat, while his brother and former MP K E Krishna Murthy is likely to contest from the neighbouring Dhone. "After the exit of Subba Reddy, the TDP is making all-out efforts to convince former minister and senior Congress leader V Rambhupal Chowdary to join forces with it," an insider said. There are reports that Chowdary may contest from Kurnool Lok Sabha seat as the TDP candidate.Meanwhile, the PRP district convenor Bhuma Nagi Reddy is sparing no efforts to make the party a strong unit in Kurnool district. He convinced senior Congress leader D Vishnuvardhan Reddy to join the PRP. " Vishnu is all set to contest from Panyam," an aide of Nagi Reddy said. Their close associates revealed that the Bhuma couple had made efforts to convince Subba Reddy and his son to join the PRP.
