This time, the post of president was reserved for the studio sector.
There are four sectors in the film chamber - producer sector, distributor sector, exhibitor sector and studio owner sector. The president's post is reserved for each sector in turns. Last year, D Suresh Babu got elected from the exhibitor sector.
In Friday's election, out of the 47 persons who were eligible to vote for the election of president from the studio sector, 45 could make it. While Kalyan got 26 votes, 'Gemini' Kiran got 19 votes.
C Kalyan is also a producer. He has been the president of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce in Chennai for four years.
The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce usually holds its meetings in Hyderabad at its Filmnagar office. However, once a year meetings are also held at its offices in Tirupati and Vijayawada.
"The new president is expected to take up some measures for the benefit of the Telugu film industry. Since he has already taken up many such programmes in the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce, he can do it here also," said producer C Ashok Kumar.
