hyderabad: the tele-medicine project launched by the care foundation will become fully operational only after a month. at present the electro cardiogram is in operation and soon the ct scanner will be set up. the project aims at providing expert advise from hyderabad through the online facility to patients living in rural areas. the link between the government hospital at mahaboobnagar and care hospital in the city enables the patients to send their clinical record and images to the doctors here.

after examination, the doctors can advise the patients online. prof arun tiwari, director of care foundation, told the times of india that due to floods in some parts of the state the ct scanner could not be set up. "in one month, everything will be in place and we expect to receive 10 ct scans per day," he said. for the first time in the country, a corporate hospital and government hospital has been linked under "public private participation" with the care foundation investing rs 3 crore. as part of the project, new equipment has been added to the infrastructure. the project was launched by chief minister n chandrababu naidu on thursday and he communicated with patients in mahaboobnagar. according to prof arun tiwari, the facility will be made available to the patients round the clock. it will be operational mainly during the outpatient ward timings. the project is using the ku band of insat 3c with the technology having been indigenously developed. "the patients need not come to the city. besides those living in mahaboobnagar, the people in the adjoining districts of karnataka can make use of the facility. they can directly communicate with the super specialists here," prof tiwari said. the project was first tested on may 5 this year by noted scientist a p j abdul kalam.
