WARANGAL: Senior BJP leader and former MLA Mandadi Satyanarayana Reddy passed away due to illness at his residence at Waddepally in Hanamkonda on Sunday. He was 87. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
Reddy played a vital role during the first and second Telangana movements. He was a writer, poet and also an orator. He had also inspired many through his poetry and writings on the injustices meted out to Telangana and the need for statehood. On several occasions, he sang songs written by him in the assembly to highlight the need for a separate Telangana.
Born into a family of farmers in the remote village of Ippaguda in Station Ghanpur mandal of Jangaon district, Reddy started his political career as a Jan Sangh worker and later a Swayamsevak. He went on to serve as the vice-president of BJP for two-terms in the undivided Andhra Pradesh.
In 2001, Reddy joined TRS and was elected as MLA from Hanamkonda constituency on the pink party ticket in 2004 in the undivided state. Later, he rejoined BJP before the 2009 election.
Haryana governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Union tourism and culture minister G Kishan Reddy, TRS minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, and several senior saffron party leaders, including BJP state chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar, MLA Eatala Rajender, Telangana Congress president Anumula Revanth Reddy and others expressed grief over his demise and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family.
