Telangana: Red gram farmers in worry with no clarity on purchase of their produce

HYDERABAD: Red gram farmers in the state are facing problems with no clarity on the

purchase

of their

produce

with Minimum Support Price (

MSP

).

The

Markfed

has decided that Rs 6000 per quintal can be paid, but since 15 days after harvest, no efforts are made by the government for the purchase.

Red gram purchase is mostly vast in Hyderabad’s neighboring district RangaReddy where 42,000 tonnes of produce is expected this year. In

Vikarabad

1.5 lakh metric tonnes produce is expected. But officials have plans to purchase only 4000 tonnes from Ranga Reddy and 18,000 from Vikarabad,

upsetting farmers

. “If this is the way, we have no option but do distress selling,” V Srikanth Reddy, a farmer from Vikarabad said.
