Telangana police expedite investigation into rape of German tourist
Hyderabad: Rachakonda police, investigating the alleged rape of a German tourist by a youth at Mamidipally on the outskirts of Hyderabad, got her statement recorded by a magistrate under the provisions of the BNS.
As the woman is scheduled to fly back to Germany on Thursday, cops are ensuring that they complete all the legal procedures and gather evidence from her to build a strong case against the culprit. Meanwhile, cops are also preparing a detailed report on the case which would be submitted to the German consulate.
Cops are verifying the criminal antecedents of the accused and his activities during his stay in Dubai a couple of years ago, where he worked as a driver. A team of cops has been deputed to work on this case under the supervision of Rachakonda police commissioner G Sudheer Babu.
According to officials monitoring the case, the statement of the 25-year-old woman was recorded by women officials, followed by the investigating officer and then by the magistrate. Her German friend’s statement was also recorded by the investigating officer and the magistrate.
In view of the gravity of the case and the fact that they have to fly back to their country, senior officials from Rachakonda pursued the matter with all authorities concerned to expedite the process, said an official.
The cops also collected the required documentation from the woman and her male friend. Now, only the medical, technical, and forensic reports are awaited. Subsequently, statements of other witnesses, including their Indian friend from Meerpet, the five minor boys who accompanied the accused, and a few more witnesses, would be recorded during the probe.
“We are working to complete the investigation expeditiously, make a foolproof case, and file a chargesheet in the court at the earliest possible to ensure that the culprit gets punishment in the court,” added the official.
Further, the case report would first be sent to the police commissioner and then to the Telangana CID, the nodal agency in the state, who will forward it to the German consulate, an official said.
