WARANGAL: Wife of a 32-year-old man who died by suicide in Mulkanoor village of Hanumakonda district, alleged that police torture drove her husband to take the extreme step. In a complaint filed at Mulkanoor police station on Thursday, the deceased G Ashok's wife, Anusha, alleged that the sub-inspector (SI) of Hasanparthy had beaten up Ashok in police custody, forcing him to confess to a theft.
Cops said that a case had been registered under section 194 of the BNSS and investigation is underway. "The body of the deceased has been shifted to the Huzurabad government hospital for post-mortem examination," said N Sai Baba, SI, Mulkanoor.
"On Sept 22 the SI Devender called my husband to the police station and tortured him in custody. He was trying to force him to confess to a theft he hadn't committed. Later in the day, the SI released Ashok and asked him to come back the next day. That day too he beat him up before releasing him in the night," said Anusha further alleging that SI Devender asked her husband to return the third day but with money.
Hasanparthy inspector, V Cheralu said: "After enquiry, SI Devender sent Ashok home. The latter was neither beaten up nor harassed."
