Telangana govt to start work on detailed master plan for Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority soon
Hyderabad: After completing three sub-plans for mobility and transport, economic development, and blue and green infrastructure, the Telangana govt will soon begin preparing a comprehensive master plan for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) for 2050.
Official sources said they are awaiting the government’s approval of the three sub-plans, which are ready, before they can embark on the preparation of the master plan. Chief minister Revanth Reddy is likely to hold a meeting to discuss the sub-plans soon.
Municipal administration officials said the sub-plans—transportation and mobility, economic development, and blue and green plans—would be incorporated along with other aspects in the proposed comprehensive master plan. The sub-plans suggest measures with long-term goals until 2050, medium-term goals from 2031 to 2040, and short-term goals from 2024 to 2030. For instance, the comprehensive mobility plan will suggest traffic patterns in the areas and propose a mass rapid transport system and road development plan. Similarly, the economic development plan will suggest where the areas are developing and the need for the infrastructure department, etc.
Sources said the municipal administration department suggested some modifications, including extending the plan to newly merged HMDA areas. When the consultants for the three plans were appointed last year, the jurisdiction of the HMDA was just 7,000 sq km, which is now extended to 10,450 sq km by including new villages and mandals.
For the purpose of the master plan, the entire HMDA area has been divided into three zones: up to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), between the ORR and the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR), and the area beyond the RRR.
Revanth Reddy announced a few months ago that a comprehensive master plan for 2050 would be prepared for the metropolitan region’s development over the next 25 years. As of now, the HMDA region does not have a proper comprehensive master plan. Though the previous BRS govt started integrating various master plans five years ago, it was put in cold storage.
