HYDERABAD: In his second term as chief minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to cobble together a combination of old and new faces in the new state cabinet.

While KCR will take oath on Thursday afternoon, a full-fledged cabinet is expected to be inducted only after a week. Speculation is rife that either ex-deputy chief minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, who is a close aide of KCR, or an MLA from the SC community may take oath along with him.

Apart from the four ministers in the previous cabinet — Tummala Nageshwara Rao, Patnam Mahender Reddy, Jupally Krishna Rao and Chandulal, who lost the recently concluded elections, KCR may also drop three to four other ministers, including Nayani Narsimha Reddy and T Padma Rao.

Reddy, Dharmapuri MLA Koppula Eshwar, Balka Suman from Chennur, Niranjan Reddy from Wanaparthy, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Redya Naik and Srinivas Goud from Mahbubnagar are among the new faces that may make it to the cabinet.

KCR is likely to continue with former ministers like Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Jogu Ramanna, Kadiam Srihari, C Laxma Reddy and Talasani Srinvas Yadav.

Sources said the TRS chief is considering three names for the speaker’s post after ex-speaker S Madhusudhana Chary lost the election from Bhoopalapally. While deputy speaker Padma Devender Reddy from Medak is on top of that list, former minister Eatala Rajender from Huzurabad and Redya Naik from Dornakal are also under consideration for the post.

KCR is now expected to give an opportunity to Alair MLA Gongidi Sunitha, who served as whip in the previous house.

Meanwhile, sources said Padma Devender Reddy, who is being considered for the speaker’s position, is more keen on serving as minister.

With the one Velama community minister, Jupally Krishna Rao, losing the election from Kollapur, KCR’s old friend from TDP, Erraballi Dayakar Rao, who is now in TRS, could be given a chance from Warangal. The name of Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, MLA from Warangal West, is also being considered for a cabinet post.

From Mahbubnagar, while KCR may continue with Laxma Reddy, state planning board chairman S Niranjan Reddy may also get a chance.

From the BC quota, the name of Mahbubnagar MLA V Srinivas Goud is doing the rounds. Goud was earlier made parliamentary secretary but the appointment was struck down by the Hyderabad high court. Though Tummala Nageshwara Rao lost from Palair, he might may still be considered for a cabinet berth as KCR believes he was defeated due to the party’s internal politics in Khammam. The TRS president has reportedly assured Tummala that he would be inducted into the cabinet.

From Nizamabad district, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy is likely to continue in the new cabinet even as Balkonda MLA Vemula Prashant Reddy is trying his luck.

Since there are too many candidates from the Reddy community, Prashant Reddy may be continued as vice chairman of Mission Bhagiratha Corporation, which is also a cabinet rank post.

From the city, while continuing with Mohd Mahmood Ali from the minority quota and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Danam Nagender may also get a chance.

TRS sources said since Patnam Mahender Reddy, the minister from Tandur in erstwhile Ranga Reddy district, lost, his brother Patnam Narender Reddy, who defeated Revanth Reddy from Kodangal, may be given a chance.
