Telangana degree colleges add 11 skill courses
Hyderabad: Telangana’s govt degree colleges will introduce 11 new courses under the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP) from this academic year, expanding the total number of courses to 24 across 96 colleges, commissioner of technical education A Sridevasena said on Monday.
Addressing a press briefing, she said the programme aims to enrol 8,000 students this year, a sharp rise from 1,770 admissions recorded last year.
The newly introduced courses cover emerging sectors such as electronics, agriculture, media and commerce. These include BSc e-mobility and battery, embedded systems and IoT, food processing and technology, animation and VFX, film and TV production, and BCom business analytics.
Sridevasena said AEDP is designed to make students industry-ready by integrating skill-based training into academics. Of the total 132 credits, 70 are dedicated to industry skills and practical learning. Students will spend their final two semesters in industries as apprentices and receive a monthly stipend of Rs 7,000.
The courses were developed in collaboration with Sector Skill Councils and institutions such as IIT Hyderabad, ISB, University of Hyderabad and EFLU.
She added that AEDP admissions in DOST 2026 Phase I have already reached 1,379, reflecting rising demand for apprenticeship-based degree programmes.
