HYDERABAD: Even as the Telangana employees have been demanding that Telangana nativity should be taken into consideration while appointing deputy collectors, the state government has shortlisted 10 officials from an unspecified number of applicants for promotion to the
Indian Administrative Service (IAS) under revenue services category. There are 16 vacancies for the state under the revenue and non-revenue categories put together this year.
The list was sent to UPSC for conferment of IAS on these officers. Shortlisted officials are Korra Lakshmi (state archeological department), Chittem Lakshmi (on leave), K Dharma Reddy (Medchal), T Vinay Krishna Reddy (Khammam), Ch Sivalingaiah (Nirmal), V Venkateswarlu (Sangareddy), M Hanumantha Rao ( Gajwel Development Authority ), D Amoy Kumar (Bhupalapally), K Hymavati (sub-collector) and M Haritha (Warangal). The state government confers IAS on a few officers every year and absorbs them into the All-India Service.
Although there is a formal selection committee, comprising officials from the UPSC besides the chief secretary, and principal secretary (political) in the general administration department, seniority will be the final word in the selection of officers under the revenue service.
From the state service, there are two categories, revenue, and non-revenue. Officials in the revenue service like deputy collectors are conferred with IAS without a formal interview after eight years of service if their confidential report rates them as outstanding. However, officers from other than the revenue department will have to go through an interview conducted by the UPSC.
