Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy inspects flood-hit areas in Ameerpet, promises permanent solution
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday conducted a surprise inspection of flood affected areas in Ameerpet, including the perennial storm water stagnation point at Maitrivanam, due to heavy rain for the last two days in the city, with the locals pouring out their woes during his nearly hour-long interaction with them to know the ground situation.
The CM directed the officials that knee-jerk reaction works were not a solution and that they should come up with short, medium and long-term plans to solve water stagnation on main roads and flooding of low-lying colonies.
Officials of GHMC, HMWS&SB HYDRAA, MAUD and other departments were taken by surprise as they were informed less than 30 minutes before the CM reached the flood-hit areas around 4pm. After speaking to the people, seeing for himself the reasons for the water logging problem at Maitrivanam, which causes traffic jams, storm water entering localities at Balkampet and other areas, the CM suggested various measures and works to be taken up immediately to solve monsoon- related woes being faced by the people.
The CM made several suggestions to the officials to strengthen the drainage network to prevent inundation of low-lying areas due to flood waters. Inspecting the drainage system in Buddha Nagar, the CM said that the colony was prone to flooding because the drain was constructed higher than the colony road and directed the officials to rectify the design and gradient in the sewer system immediately ensuring free flow of flood water.
He took a serious note of the complaint lodged by the locals over using the adjacent area of Gangubhai Basti Kunta for parking. Revanth visited the area and instructed the officials to address the issue immediately. He asked the officials to prepare plans immediately to provide a permanent solution to the flood problem by constructing a special trunk line.
He also inspected water stagnation point at Maitrivanam and observed that the storm water drain’s design and gradient was not proper due to which there was no free flow of rain water into it. Officials were told to take up immediate rectification works.
At Buddha Nagar in Ameerpet, a class seven student, Jaswanth, informed the CM that rain water had gushed into his house damaging even his books. Moved by the plight of the student, the CM assured him of all support. The CM told the officials to submit a plan to solve the flood water problem in the colony. HYDRAA chief AV Ranganath explained to the CM the reasons for flooding and that a study of micro catchment areas in the city would be done by the Agency in coordination with other departments based on which the plans to solve flooding problems would be prepared and implemented.

There are permanent constructions abutting the nalas and on the nalas too. In some places as in the case of Hussain Sagar at the BRK Bhavan end the nala can be seen but later it goes underground from there beyond Liberty and Himayat nagar and emerges at narayanguda.Read allPost comment
