HYDERABAD: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested South Central Railway chief engineer P R Suresh at Secunderabad while he was accepting Rs 5 lakh compensation.

A case was registered against Suresh, who works in Rail Nirman Nilayam at Secunderabad, on June 29.

He had demanded Rs 5 lakh from the complainant for extending the contract period for construction of rail over bridge between Uppal-Jammikunta railway stations.

CBI sleuths laid a trap and caught the accused official red-handed while taking the bribe.

After the trap, CBI conducted searches at the premises of the accused.

The arrested accused was produced before the CBI special court in Hyderabad.
