Teen shepherd bathing sheep in lake in Film Nagar drowns
Hyderabad: A 19-year-old shepherd drowned, while a teenager, who made a bid to save him, had a narrow escape at Film Nagar on Sunday. Local police said that Pavan, a shepherd, on Sunday evening went out for rearing sheep. After making the cattle gaze near a water body, he got into the water to give them a bath. At that time, there were a few teenagers, including Nitin, Venkat and Sunny, who are known to Pavan, near the pond. “Suddenly, Pavan started to drown. Venkat, a 13-year-old, noticed it and went to his rescue, but he too started drowning,” Film Nagar sub-inspector M Satish Kumar told TOI. Locals who were there at the spot, rushed to save them. But by then, Pavan drowned. With great difficulty, they managed to pull out Venkat alive from the water body. The locals called police, who pressed in swimmers in search of him. By then, it became dark. The search operation continued till late in the night but with no success. Later, they called off the operation for the day. On Monday morning, they resumed the rescue operation by involving Disaster Response Force (DRF) of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who started using boats to go around to trace the body. It was in the afternoon, Pavan’s body was recovered. Pavan had completed Intermediate second year recently. His father is a painter.
