Techie’s body to arrive later this week

HYDERABAD: The mortal remains of 25-year-old Sharath Koppu are likely to reach the city later this week.


Soon after the news broke, the Regional Passport Office, Hyderabad, swung into action and began monitoring the situation in the US and assist in completing formalities to get the body back to Hyderabad.

“We have deputed Anil Suri, vice consul (visa) of Consulate

General

of India (CGI) in Chicago and

Kansas

to make all necessary arrangements to complete the formalities. Apart from this, we are in touch with US Consulate General, Hyderabad, and the bereaved family,” regional passport officer, Telangana region, Hyderabad, E Vishnu Vardhan Reddy told TOI.

“We are trying to get the body as early as possible to the city. Till Sunday, the US police have not handed over the body due to a lengthy procedure, including conducting autopsy and other formalities, which are mandatory. After autopsy, the body has to embalmed and later based on the flight schedules, the body will be flown to India,” he said.

“It may take two to three days to complete this procedure. We are ready to help the family members get passports and visas from our side,” added Reddy.

Also, the MEA’s official WhatsApp posted an information stating, “Our Consulate in Chicago is in touch with local police. Two consulate officials are now on their way to Kansas to liaise with authorities and extend all possible assistance.”
