Teacher held for raping ex-student

HYDERABAD: A government school teacher was arrested by Shivarampally police on Friday for allegedly raping a 19-year-old former student.Police said the teacher, Bhoopal Reddy,is presently working as Telugu pandit in Mailardevpally government school.Earlier he worked in the school at Nednur in Kandukur mandal. The girl, a formerstudent of the school and currently residing at Balapur, approached Reddy tohelp her in appearing for DIET CET entranceexaminations.Shivarampally police inspector Uma Maheshwar Rao saidthe girl approached Bhoopal Reddy as she had doubts in the subjects. He askedher to come to his residence on May 23. When she went to his place, he allegedlyraped her.Soon after the incident, Bhoopal Reddy convinced the girlthat he would marry her and asked her not to approach police. Sinceshe could not contact him after the incident, the girl lodged a complaint withthe police.Police on Monday arrested Bhoopal Reddy under charges ofrape and SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.Constable commitssuicide: An AP Special Police constable committed suicide by hanging at hisquarter on Friday. The constable, A Janardhan Shetty, 32, was a native ofChittoor and was attached with the APSP 8th battalion. He was staying in theQuarter no 79 of the Battalion at Kondapur along with hisfamily.According to the police, Shetty's family members went out fora few days when the incident took place. Shetty peeped through the window andfound him hanging.Police suspect family problems might have led tothe constable's suicide.
