VIJAYAWADA: TDP president Chandrababu Naidu has decided to disband his party’s urban committees in the state. The urban committees will be merged with the district committees, TDP sources told The Times of India on Sunday. However, Hyderabad urban committee will continue to function.
The TDP president revealed this decision at a meeting in Hyderabad with party leaders from Vijayawada on Sunday.
The leaders were seeking the constitution of the TDP Vijayawada urban committee.
The Vijayawada urban committee was not constituted when all other district committees were formed two months ago.
Agriculture minister Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao, Vijayawada MP Gadde Rama Mohan Rao, ad hoc committee convener K V P Basaveswara Rao and other leaders met Naidu on the sidelines of a party executive meeting.
The TDP president took the leaders to task and did not lend them an ear. He told them that he was not interested in constituting the Vijayawada urban committee and instead wanted to merge it with the Krishna district unit.
Similarly, the TDP urban committees in Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati will be merged with their respective district committees.
“The so-called urban committees are representing only two or three Assembly segments and are serving no real purpose. Moreover, they have become a big headache for the party, Naidu said. The TDP high command is concerned with the infighting within the Vijayawada and Guntur urban units. Differences have surfaced in these two units with leaders openly fighting for party positions.
