HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party will request the Delimitation Commission not to change the existing names of the constituencies and headquarters during the ongoing exercise. Party sources said chief minister Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting on Sunday with the associate members of the Commission belonging to the TDP.
Naidu instructed the members to request the Commission, at the meeting scheduled on Monday in New Delhi, to extend the deadline for submitting their observations by a month.
The TDP would request the Commission not to break the mandals as part of the reorganisation and not to create constituencies with town having religious places as headquarters.
The TDP members would appeal to the Commission to consider the population of scheduled tribes in the state as a unit and not as a district as proposed. Naidu asked the leaders to impress upon the Commission to reduce the percentage of variation in population calculations to five per cent from the existing 10 per cent. The associate members of the party K E Krishnamurthy, R Prakash Reddy, D Umamaheshwar Rao, N Sivaprasad and party leaders M A Sheriff and Umareddy Venkateswarulu participated in the meeting.
