guntur: dcc president r srinivas has accused the tdp of intimidating electorate in the thulluru zilla parishad territorial constituency to vote in its favour in the by-election which is due to be held on tuesday. speaking to reporters here on monday, he exuded confidence that the congress would win the by-election if the polling was peaceful and fair.
srinivas alleged that a large member of tdp leaders were camping in the constituency and creating fear psychosis among voters. srinivas submitted memoranda to the state election commission, the district collector and the district sp urging them to check the activities of outsiders in the constituency and ensure free and peaceful poll. the thulluru zptc is part of the tadikonda assembly constituency represented by social welfare minister j r pushparaj. the by-election was caused by the death of m s s koteswara rao (tdp). he had defeated his congress rival a pullaiah by a margin of about 800 votes in july 2001. pullaiah is again in the fray as congress candidate. while damineni srinivasa rao is the tdp nominee, bsp candidate b prabhakara rao and independent j srinivasa rao are the others in the fray. of the 14 mptcs in the thulluru zptc, the tdp bagged seven, the congress five and independents two in the july 2001 election. the tdp also won the thulluru mandal praja parishad.the tdp also won the thulluru mandal praja paroshad. while social welfare minister j r pushparaj, civil supplies minister and k siva prasada rao are campaigners for tdp, dcc president r srinivas, ex-mp r sambasiva rao, youth congress president t venkata rao are congress campaigners
