HYDERABAD: Four days shy of his 40th birthday, actor Taraka Ratna of the NTR clan passed away in a Bengaluru hospital on Saturday after battling for life for 23 days. He suffered a massive heart attack on January 27.

Taraka Ratna, born on Feb 22, 1983, collapsed while walking along with TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh during the latter's 'Yuvagalam' padayatra in Kuppam last month.

Telugu actor-politician Nandamuri Taraka Ratna passed away on Saturday.

Four days shy of his 40th birthday, Tollywood actor Nandamuri Taraka Ratna of the NTR clan passed away in a Bengaluru hospital on Saturday after battling for life for 23 days.

Taraka is the son of cinematographer Mohanakrishna and grandson of former chief minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and TDP founder late NT Rama Rao.

He was taken to a hospital in Kuppam. As his condition turned critical, he was rushed to Bengaluru's Narayana Hrudayalaya.


Taraka Ratna is survived by his wife and daughter

Taraka Ratna is the son of cinematographer Mohanakrishna and grandson of former chief minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and TDP founder the late NT Rama Rao. He acted in 26 films with some of them making their mark at the box office.

Like some of the other grandsons of NTR, Taraka Ratna too became an actor making his debut with the film 'Okato Number Kurradu' in 2002. Some of his other notable films include 'Taarak', 'Bhadradri Ramudu', 'Nandeeshwarudu', 'Eduru Leni Alexander' and 'Yuva Ratna'. He was a recipient of the Nandi award for his role as a villain in 'Amaravati'. He recently acted in a web series titled '9 Hours'.

Lokesh expressed grief at the passing away of Taraka Ratna. "He would affectionately address me as 'bava'. He would stand by me and walk with me. The Telugu Desam Party has lost a young leader and the void that has been created with his death cannot be filled. We were more like friends than relatives," Lokesh said.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao condoled the death of the actor. Finance minister T Harish Rao said: "Deeply saddened to know about the demise of actor Taraka Ratna. Heartfelt condolences to his family and friends at this time of grief."

"Deeply saddened to learn of the tragic premature demise of Nandamuri Taraka Ratna. Such bright, talented, affectionate young man...gone too soon! Heartfelt condolences to all the family members and fans," tweeted megastar Chiranjeevi.

Jana Sena Party leader and actor Pawan Kalyan, while offering his condolences to the family, said: "Taraka Ratna wanted to come into public life and serve the people. It is sad that he has passed away."

"A dear friend and very humble human. It's heartbreaking to see him gone so soon. He will be dearly missed. Rest in peace babai," said actor Allari Naresh expressing his grief.

"Deeply saddened on the passing away of Taraka Ratna garu. My sincere condolences to his family and friends in this hour of grief," actor Akkineni Chaitanya said. "Unable to come to terms with this bitter truth. A young bright star gone too soon," said director Sampath Nandi.
