Tanay & Tanmay put Hyd on top

Hyderabad: Hosts Hyderabad were sitting pretty with a mammoth 302-run first innings lead on the first day of their Ranji Trophy Plate group match against Sikkim.
Sikkim were shot out for a paltry 79 in their first innings at the NexGen Cricket Ground on Friday. Hyderabad were 381 for three with skipper Tilak Varma unbeaten on 70 (66b; 4x5, 6x3) and Chandan Sahani on 8.
The Hyderabad openers laid a strong foundation with a 132-run partnership in just 108 balls. Former skipper Tanmay Agarwal slammed a brisk century (137; 125b, 4x11, 6x5) and Rahul Singh Gahlaut hammered a 64-ball 83 (4x10, 6x5). Tanmay added another 138 runs (159b) for the second wicket with K Rohit Rayudu, who hit a cautious 75 (111b, 4x3, 6x2).
Earlier, Sikkim captain Nilesh Lamichaney’s decision to bat backfired. Left-arm seamer Chama Milind (4/30) rocked the rivals early with a double strike. He removed openers Pankaj Rawat (4) and Arun Chettri (8) cheaply.
Sikkim never recovered from that as left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan removed skipper Nilesh Lamichaney (11) and Ashish Thapa (14) in quick session. With Sikkim reeling at 4/41, Milind came back to dismiss their top scorer of the season Sumit Singh (10) with the total on 59. Tanay Thyagarajan wrapped up their innings with excellent returns of 6.4-2-25-6. Ankur Malik was the top scorer for Sikkim with 17.
Brief scores: Sikkim 79 in 27.4 overs (Ashish Thapa 14, Ankur Malik 17; Chama Milind 4/30, Tanay Thyagarajan 6/25) vs Hyderabad 381/3 in 62.0 overs (Tanmay Agarwal 137, G Rahul Singh 83, K Rohit Rayudu 75, Tilak Varma 70*, Chandan Sahani 8*; Ankur Malik 2/87).
