T Harish Rao

who held a review meeting here on Thursday. “The state has already stood first in e-NAM, an electronic agriculture market, that operates across the country. The Nizamabad market has been identified as the number one market under e-NAM in the country. Now, the state warehousing corporation has got the first place in realizing its storage capacity,” said Harish Rao.

Due to bumper production in paddy, cotton and chillies, the state government had encountered the ire of farmers at several market yards over storage issues. To overcome this, Telangana government has launched construction of godowns in a big way in 2016.

Godown construction was taken up at a cost of Rs 1,024 crore with a capacity of 17.07 lakh tonnes for the farmers to store their produce in the godowns when their goods do not fetch a good price in the market. By June 2017, 276 godowns were constructed at a cost of Rs 801 crore. The government also increased the interest free loan limit on these stocks to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 75,000.

The godowns after completion will also be used to stock seeds and fertilizer to prevent any scarcity.
