T HC judges & bar members pay tribute to Justice Ramalingeswara
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and all other judges of the high court along with the heads of the bar on Wednesday paid rich tributes to their former colleague Justice A Ramalingeswara Rao who passed away on April 5 due to cardiac arrest. Recalling his association with Justice Rao, advocate general (AG) A Sudarsan Reddy said that his upbringing in West Godavari district, that has a significant tribal population, shaped his perspectives and instilled in him a robust sense of justice, the AG said. “The judgement of the Supreme Court of India in Samatha Vs State of AP was a watershed in the administration of rights of Tribals in agency areas,” Sudarsan Reddy said. Ramalingeswara Rao was the Counsel for Samatha organisation that filed this case and initiated the case before this high court. “I personally saw the effort put in by Justice Ramalingeswara Rao during the hearing of Samatha as I appeared for APMDC, one of the respondents in the matter. This case, decided in 1997, became a cornerstone for the protection of tribal lands against exploitation by non-tribal entities,” he added.
