HYDERABAD: In a major announcement, the BRS government has thrown open the 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme to even those with a piece of land in gramakantam category or an old house in gramakantam.
Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had come out with the 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme which provides 3 lakh financial grant to the poor having a piece of land or a room or two. The scheme aims to help the poor who have land but cannot afford to build a house.
"The 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme is a continuous process. Those having an old house in gramakantam or a piece of land, which usually does not have registration papers, are also eligible to apply. Even if there is no house number or people have vacant land in gramakantam, they can apply. Do not get worried that the last date to apply is over," housing minister V Prashanth Reddy tweeted.
As per revenue records, gramakantam land were originally open spaces in villages but managed by the panchayat. The land could be utilised by any villager with panchayat permission, but they were not given any rights over the land. The government orders issued earlier for implementation of 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme had lacked clarity on gramakantam land on which a majority of the villages are located in Telangana. Opposition parties had also appealed to the government to extend the last date as obtaining government certificates such as registration documents, income, caste and other documents was taking time in rural areas due to poor internet connectivity.
On Wednesday, minister Prashanth Reddy, while dismissing rumours that the scheme will an end on August 10 which is the last date of application, said that CM KCR was committed to ensuring that the dream of the homeless poor to have own house would be fulfilled and the scheme would be implemented in a phased a manner.
Meanwhile, BC welfare minister, Gangula Kamalakar, clarified that there is no specific form for the scheme. Instead, individuals can apply by submitting a handwritten application on white paper along with food security card, Aadhaar, and voter ID to tahsildars.
