HYDERABAD: After being flooded with complaints from passengers over cleanliness of railway compartments, food served by pantry cars, delayed departure of trains and mismanagement at booking counters, the railways began surprise inspections at the South Central Railway (SCR).
SCR brass launched surprise field inspection to resolve these issues and seek responses from passengers.
Vinod Kumar Yadav, general manager(GM) of SCR is keeping a tab on public amenities at Railways through special inspections to make way for passenger interaction with the SCR top brass, in order to ease the load of complaints lodged with public grievance redressal section.
Earlier, the GM had sent in several teams to monitor the public amenities, but this is for the first time he has kicked off personal inspections at different railway stations.
To start with, on Saturday the GM visited Kacheguda station and checked public amenities. He also inspected the work of station manager, Raja Narsu and booking offices. He then travelled to Jadcherla via Kacheguda-Chennai Egmore express and checked the facilities in AC coaches. SCR spokesperson further said that he had mo ved to sleeper class and interacted with passengers who gave him suggestions to step up the services.
However, members of MMTS Travellers' Association want the GM to conduct similar inspections at local stations such as Begumpet, Sitaphalmandi, James Street, Malkajgiri and Narayanguda, which “are lacking in enough public facilities“ like drinking water and clean toilets.
