KURNOOL: Three students of the Mahanandi Government Agriculture College in Kurnool district, who indulged in ragging of a first year student, B Govardhan, have been suspended by the associate dean of Agricultural College.

it may be recalled that govardhan (19) of tadipatri committed suicide on monday by hanging himself to a fan in his house. according to the suicide note, goverdhan was ragged inhumanly by his seniors. the freshers, it is said, were asked to play kabaddi in nude by the seniors. goverdhan is alleged to have also been sexually abused by seniors. the district sp p s r anjaneylu told the times of india that the senior students organised a dinner for freshers on friday and ragged them on the night. goverdhan left college on saturday without informing anyone to his native village, tadipatri and committed suicide on monday. police identified three students, srinivas raju, a second year student, satish and pamuleti as the culprits and arrested raju. the other two are at large. the case has now been handed over to cid. meanwhile, the acharya n g ranga agricultural university, in a statement, expressed deep sorrow and anguish over the incident and conveyed its sympathy to the bereaved family. the press note further said that university had banned ragging in accordance with student conduct rules, 1986 and an awareness among students regarding the stringent punishment was also being generated every year. university also takes an undertaking from parents that they would not indulge in ragging.
