HYDERABAD: A postgraduate student of IIT Hyderabad (IIT-H) ended her life on Monday in her hostel room on campus. Police said the 21-year-old student from Odisha hanged herself from the ceiling fan.

She also left behind a suicide note, written in Odia, mentioning financial problems as the reason behind the extreme step, police said. This is the fourth suicide by an IIT-Hyderabad student in the last one year.

In the latest incident, the 21-year-old was in her first year of MTech.

At around 9 pm, the IIT-H administration informed Sangareddy police about her suicide.

Police said they have registered a case of suspicious death. Earlier, in August 2022 an MTech student, B Rahul, had ended his life. This was followed by the suicide of Megha Kapoor outside the campus in a lodge in September. She had been staying there to clear backlogs.
