HYDERABAD: A postgraduate student of IIT Hyderabad (IIT-H) ended her life on Monday in her hostel room on campus. Police said the 21-year-old student from Odisha hanged herself from the ceiling fan.
She also left behind a suicide note, written in Odia, mentioning financial problems as the reason behind the extreme step, police said. This is the fourth suicide by an IIT-Hyderabad student in the last one year.
In the latest incident, the 21-year-old was in her first year of MTech.
At around 9 pm, the IIT-H administration informed Sangareddy police about her suicide.
Student joined IIT 2 weeks ago; suicide note in Odia She came to the campus to join the course on July 26. Her family lives in Odisha and they have been informed. The suicide note is in Odia. The IIT administration is yet to release details of the student,” said a cop.
Police said they have registered a case of suspicious death. Earlier, in August 2022 an MTech student, B Rahul, had ended his life. This was followed by the suicide of Megha Kapoor outside the campus in a lodge in September. She had been staying there to clear backlogs. After that in July this year, a BTech second year student Karthik left the campus and his body was found at Vizag beach. He too had multiple backlogs.
