stray dogs

The National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) at Hakimpet also approached SCB officials seeking a drive against the stray canines. SCB officials swung into action and deployed dog catching teams.

The canines are handed over to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for neutering. “A few months ago, we hired three teams to catch stray canines. But we stopped the drive as our finances did not permit us to continue it. We have now hired a team as the number of complaints increased of late,“ said an official in the SCB health and sanitation wing. As many as 50 stray dogs were caught in the last five days from Trimulgherry. Women and children are scared to move alone. The problem is compounded during the breeding season when dogs turn ferocious. Another 30 stray dogs were caught at Bowenpally and Karkhana during the drive. Official said no dog bite cases have been reported so far.

A resident, Saraswati, said the dog menace increased in recent past. “We have stopped coming out of homes after 6.00 pm,“ she added. Complaints of stray canine menace have also come in from Bollaram. Civilian ward VIII member J Lokanadham said his ward is also facing pig menace.

SCB sanitation wing senior officer M Devender said the SCB will start its own sterilisation clinic. “We have identified a place for the clinic. We will appoint a veterinary surgeon soon,“ he added.
