HYDERABAD: After a long delay, the government on Wednesday promoted seven IAS officers of the 1978 batch as principal secretaries. However, J Ramanand, currently administrator of the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority, was not considered for promotion.
Those who were promoted to the rank of principal secretaries include J C Mohanty (secretary-GAD-Coordination), P K Mohanty (executive director, Centre for Good Governance), I V Subba Rao (secretary, school education), I Y R Krishna Rao (secretary, finance), Chandana Khan (secretary, tourism), S Chellappa (commissioner and director of sugar), Ajoyendra Pyal (commissioner, labour).
A P Rao, who is also from the 1979 batch, was not promoted as he is under suspension. Ramanand was not considered for promotion, as his annual confidential reports were not satisfactory, sources said. Orders were also issued retaining the seven officers at their current postings.
Significantly, the batch has four Ph Ds — J C Mohanty (Ph. D from Harvard university), P K Mohanty (Boston), I V Subba Rao (Pennsylvania University) and Chellappa.
Meanwhile, nine IAS officers of the 1980 batch were already drawing a pay scale of principal secretaries to the government, as they were recruited after the new pay commission was accepted by the Centre.
K Sujata Rao, a 1974 batch officer on central deputation in the ministry of health, will come back to the state in June, the sources said.
Meanwhile, chief secretary Mohan Kanda wanted repatriation of two officers of the state currently working in Uttaranchal. The chief secretary wrote to his counterpart in Uttaranchal requesting him to the deputation of Gopalakrishna Dwivedi and Sanjay Kumar. The officers are on inter-cadre deputation.
