State braces for peak power demand during rabi season
Hyderabad: Energy principal secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania has directed the Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) to be fully prepared for peak power demand during the ongoing rabi season, with expectations that the state's demand could reach 17,500 MW.At a review meeting held via teleconference on Friday, the principal secretary expressed satisfaction with the current power supply situation in the state. He commended the TGNPDCL for providing reliable, uninterrupted power, even while meeting the highest peak demand of 16,601 MW on Feb 26.TGNPDCL chairman and managing director K Varun Reddy reported significant progress in infrastructure improvements aimed at reducing overloads.Varun Reddy also highlighted that out of 105 overloaded power transformers, 99 had been addressed, and of the 4,850 overloaded distribution transformers, 4,530 had been completed. The remaining works are expected to be finished by March 10.Transco CMD D Krishna Bhaskar added that augmentation works on 16 power transformers had been completed, with the remaining six transformers in the NPDCL area to be finished by March 10 as a top priority.To protect standing crops, Sandeep Sultania instructed the effective deployment of emergency response team vehicles for the immediate rectification or replacement of any faulty distribution transformers, if necessary.
