Star-studded Telangana International Bengali film fest concludes
HYDERABAD: The three-day Telangana International Bengali Film Festival- Aayna 2018- celebrating the centenary of Bengali cinema ended on a high note at LV Prasads Lab Preview Theatre on Sunday. The closing ceremony of the festival, organised by the Hyderabad Bangalee Samity in association with Telangana government and The Times of India, was a star-studded evening with the presence of eminent eminent personalities from Kolkata, including veteran actor Chiranjeet and prolific director Arindam Sil.
This was the second chapter of the film festival, which got an international tag this year for screening the films from Bangladesh along with indigenous Bengali productions. “The second year of the festival had a bigger dimension and provided an opportunity to the city’s Bengali community to meet their idols. We also had artists and films from neighbours Bangladesh, thanks to the efforts of the Telangana and Bangladesh governments,” said Sumit Sen, general secretary of Hyderabad Bangalee Samity and convenor of the festival. A total of 11 films were screened at the festival, the highlights being ‘Biplab Aaj O Kaal’ and ‘Unicorn’, which have not been released in Kolkata and were premiered at the festival.
“I have proposed the same in Kolkata as people need to chip in with some aid to keep the film productions going in Tollywood. I am happy to see the love for Bengali cinema in this city where I and Mithun (Chakraborty) used to frequent for shooting of many films in the past,” actor Chiranjeet who stars in ‘Unicorn’ told TOI.
